Dr. Vasey began studying variegated and white-fronted brown lemurs of the Masoala Peninsula in northeastern Madagascar in 1993, and her research is among the only multidecade studies of rainforest lemurs in eastern Madagascar.  Her recent projects include documenting behavior and ecology of red ruffed lemurs from the canopy in the Andranobe Forest on the Masoala Peninsula.

Dr. Vasey has trained many students in field-based primatology at the Myakka City Lemur Reserve and returns regularly to Madagascar.
